When to have a hearing test

Have you noticed a change in your hearing? Do you often ask people to repeat things? Are you turning up the volume on the TV or radio? Hearing loss frequently goes unnoticed, and because it happens gradually, many people are in denial. They often stop communicating and withdraw from family, friends and social situations because they can’t understand what is being said. Our dedicated team of audiologists and hearing instrument specialists can help you improve your communication skills and stay connected. Adults and children aged five years and over are welcome at our Audiology Service locations for a hearing test. No doctor’s referral is required. Even if you are not sure you have hearing loss, a hearing test will help you better understand your hearing and provide a baseline so you and our staff can track changes over time.

What to expect at a hearing test

At your appointment, our staff will ask questions about your medical history, hearing challenges and sound environments; check your ears for wax buildup; and perform a range of tests to assess your hearing capabilities using state-of-the-art equipment. The test results are recorded on a graph called an audiogram. Following the hearing test, we’ll review the results with you. If you have hearing loss, there’s no need for an alarm. We’ll help you explore all your options and may recommend a hearing aid evaluation.

How often should you get tested

If you have hearing loss, we recommend you test your hearing annually. Regular visits help monitor your hearing loss, assess the effectiveness of your hearing aid, and provide recommendations for overcoming challenges you may be facing.
